As you can see throughout the site we have been cooking steaks in different ways, but the air fryer ribeye steak has been one of the easiest…and fastest.

We all get that steak craving but maybe you don’t want to fire up the BBQ or you just don’t have the time. This is what is so convenient about using the air fryer to cook a ribeye steak. This recipe is going to be your go-to for a busy weeknight steak craving.

Why cook steak in the air fryer?

    • Perfect dinner for 1 – 2 people.
    • Fast. We love cooking different types of steaks here at The Kitchen Bucket List, the air fryer isn’t only fast but you will love the ease and taste of the steak.
    • Golden Sear. The blasting of hot air sears the steak. The concentrated high heat creates a perfect crust and keeps the steak very moist and tender.
    • Cleanliness. Everything is done in one place, which means an excellent dinner and few dishes.

Need some side dish ideas or more steak cooking ideas we got you covered. Check out how we cook sirloins on the griddle or fire up the BBQ for our bone in ribeye.

    Best steak sides

Our favorite side for a steak dinner is potatoes. Yep, steak and potatoes and we have you covered with scalloped potatoes, twice-baked mashed potatoes, or roasted red potatoes. Don’t stop with these, we have even more:

    • Caramelized onions and mushrooms: A classic that can be done on a skillet while the steak is cooking.
    • Cheesy garlic bread: This can be popped into the air fryer while the ribeye steak rests.
    • Roasted broccoli: Don’t forget a taste-savory option with crispy and fresh roasted broccoli.
    • Mozzarella sticks: These homemade, double-breaded, ooey-gooey mozzarella sticks are made with fresh ingredients.

    Pro Tip

Don’t worry if you can only get a pack of ribeye steaks. Simply freeze the others to use later. The only thing you will need to remember is to thaw them in the refrigerator for 1 ½ – 2 days before cooking.

    Ingredients

Overhead shot showing the salt, pepper, and the cut of beef.
    • Ribeye steak: With the high heat in the air fryer the marbling in the ribeye makes it ideal for this cook and don’t forget the tenderness it brings.
    • Salt & Pepper: A classic steakhouse seasoning that lets you enjoy the ribeye’s beefy flavor in every bite.

    Instructions

We all need a great meal during the week and you can have a beautifully cooked ribeye steak in 10 minutes. The hard part of this recipe is picking which ribeye you are going to cook. The recipe is done in 5 steps:

    • Unpack and season the ribeye steak.
    • Preheat the air fryer.
    • Cook the steak in the air fryer and flip halfway through.
    • Rest, I know it is hard but let the steak relax a bit.
    • Enjoy!

Hint: Preheating the air fryer is an important step in this recipe. Don’t skip it.

    Variations

It’s a steak, have fun with the recipe. Change the seasoning to your liking. I used salt and pepper which is a great base to add additional spices to. Here are some variations you can add to the salt and pepper:

    • BBQ – Smoked Paprika will bring a sweet and smoky flavor as if you cooked it on the BBQ.
    • Deluxe – Garlic powder, onion powder, and raw sugar for a hint of sweetness.
    • Spicy – Red pepper flakes or chili powder, a pinch.

If you want to try something less peppery, check out our smoky garlic dry rub.

Perfectly cooked medium ribeye steak with a piece removed and the herb butter melting on top. The steak has a soft pink color.

    Equipment

This is all about simplicity, an air fryer (I used a basket style but oven style will work as well, cooking time may differ), and an instant read thermometer.

    Equipment

    • Air Fryer
    • Instant read thermometer

    Ingredients

    • 1 ½ lbs ribeye steak
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper (Freshly ground, even better)

    Instructions

    • Unpack the ribeye steak and place it on a plate. Sprinkle the salt & pepper, to your liking, coating the steak. The measurements above are how much we used. Place in the refrigerator until ready to cook.
If you have extra steaks simply put them in a Ziploc bag and freeze or refrigerate.
    • Preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes at 400 degrees F. This is an important step for the initial sear on the ribeye steak. The preheated air fryer basket will start the searing on the bottom side of the steak immediately to lock the moisture in.
    • Place the ribeye steak in the basket and cook for 5 minutes, then flip and cook for an additional 5 minutes to check for desired doneness. It showed 118 degrees F. We cooked for an additional 2 minutes until medium.
    • Time for the steak to rest for 10 minutes and it's the perfect time to make air fryer waffle fries.
    • Serve and enjoy!

    Notes

    • If you have time you can dry brine the ribeye steak before you cook it in the air fryer. It is a great way to tenderize and add flavor to your steak. An hour is about the minimum amount of time to have a result. If you can go longer, overnight, or 24 hours, the dry brine will really work its magic.
    • Doneness. For this recipe, I wanted medium. I prefer my medium between 135 – 145 degrees F. If you prefer a different internal temperature (doneness), just adjust it to your liking. If you want a higher internal temperature after the 10-minute cook, put the ribeye back in check it after 30 seconds, and add time as needed. If you want a rarer steak, I would check the ribeye steak 3 minutes after the flip.
