The perfect morning scone is the morning treat to light up your day. Easy to make and colorful, it will brighten up any overcast morning and get you ready for your day ahead.
Homemade with ingredients that you have in your pantry. We have adapted this recipe many times.

INGREDIENTS THAT YOU LOVE!
We made this specific recipe last week.
We combine our 2 favorite ingredients:
- Sprinkles
- Chocolate Chips
WHAT CAN GO WRONG WITH THAT? WELL, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
It did its job, brighten up the scones perfectly. I needed to have a pop of color after our few days of overcast here in the south. I know we are spoiled, a few days of clouds and here I am in desperate need of colors.
Cooked our scones on my new obsession… Cast Iron pan. I am still very new to cast iron and I love the result so far. We are testing new recipes weekly so we can share our pros and cons with you soon.
When you make this recipe, you pat down the dough to a circle and cut it as you do on a pizza. Today, I did this recipe on the cast iron. It is extremely flexible because I have done it multiple times with an oiled cookie sheet, parchment-covered cookie sheet, or on a Silpat mat. They all turn out fantastic, just make sure you watch your time
Let’s make the perfect morning scones

- 1/4 cup raw sugar
- 2 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt;
- A cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup sprinkles
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
- Brush before cooking
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Sprinkles of sugar
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
- Grease a cookie sheet or lined with parchment paper. Set aside
- In a large mixing bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the cubed cold butter and mix with 2 forks until the mixture is all crumbly
- Make a well in the center and add milk and vanilla extract.
- Mix until all incorporated, you will have a very sticky dough
- Add sprinkles and chocolate chips
- Transfer dough to a floured surface. Knead until the dough forms a nice ball. We might need to add flour, 1 TBSP at a time.
- Roll dough in a 9-inch circle and cut 8 pieces, like a pizza.
- Transfer to an oiled cookie sheet
- Brush each wedge with milk and butter and sprinkle some sugar. I use raw sugar
- Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until edge are nice and golden
- Cool on the pan for 5 minutes & Enjoy!
Baker’s notes:
Skills:
When you add your cold cubed butter to the mixture it is very awkward to mix. I am telling you right now your mixture will be crumbly. To make it easier, when mixing, I use 2 steak knives. I find the knives are easier to slice through all the cubes of butter until incorporated.
Sticky Dough
After you add your milk, you will have a very sticky dough and it is OK. Just make sure you flour your surface enough before transferring and start kneading. You might have to add more flour as you knead. I add in increments of 1 tablespoon at a time. Once you have a nice dough that holds itself, then roll it down to a circle about 9 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick. Cut your wedges and follow the rest of the recipe.

I’m planning to make these morning scones, easy to make, colorful, and the perfect treat to brighten up any day!
I’ve not made scones like these before so this is going to be a bit of an adventure. They look really quite tempting and anything with chocolate in is a winner in our house.
They are so fun to make. Totally agree! Anything with chocolate and funfetti for us is a winning combination.
