Let The Kitchen Bucket List show you how to take your baked potatoes to the next level. Done in the air fryer in under 45 minutes. They are the perfect light meal or flavorful side dish for your next steak night.
Clean 2 russet potatoes and pat dry. Use a fork to poke holes in each potato. Coat each with olive oil and sprinkle with the onion powder and salt.
Place the potatoes in the basket and air fry at 400℉ for 40 minutes.
Making the French onions
While the potatoes are air frying, start making the French onions. Clean and slice a large onion to make 4 cups.
Warm your skillet to caramelize the onion slices. Add the butter until melted, then add the onions. Coat with butter, then add the onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and ground black pepper.
Continue to cook at low, mixing occasionally until reaching a light gold caramel color. Approximately 15 minutes.
While caramelizing the onions shred the Gruyere cheese (½ cup). Set aside.
Once you reach the caramel color add the flour and mix.
Pour the beef broth and balsamic vinegar in. Mix and simmer for 5 minutes or until desired thickness. Set aside.
Once the potatoes are done air frying remove and set on a plate.
Cut each potato length-wise to be able to open the potatoes up. Use a fork to loosen the meat of the potato. Add a tablespoon of butter to each potato, and allow to melt. Then add the French onions equally to each potato.
Add the shredded Gruyere cheese equally to each potato and place back in the air fryer. Air fry at 350℉ for 3 minutes.
Remove the French onion potatoes and plate.
Enjoy!
